3:55 PM Hurm. IE5 and Navigator just refuse to render my HTML the same way. I know, I'm probably the last person on the web to register their frustration with this, but come on - does it need to be this hard to get tables to work?

It probably doesn't help that I don't really understand how to use Blogger tags.

The weekend looms large, and I'm ready for it.

11:59 AM So Jim and I are waiting for GBV to start, and I ask him if he's checked out DF yet (shameless promoting, I know), and I mention that webloggers seem to be embroiled in a {long v. short} / {journal v. blog} debate. Jim gives me a look, and immediately jumps to the logical conclusion of such a debate to say: write what you want, read what you want. Brig (one of the sites I check regularly) comes to the same conclusion on her site dedicated to longer entries. Yeah, Jim, I agree.

The beginnings of the whole controversy (as far as I can tell) started when Ben Brown got up at a SXSW panel and bemoaned the lack of longer articles on personnel websites. He's got a pretty cool description of the scene from his perspective here. From there it seems like it went a little haywire.

Of course, this is all old news for blog-hounds, but I figure most of my buddies/readers don't check out the same sites I do.

I'm supposed to have The Forest House finished by this weekend, but I don't see how that can happen. Sigh. Will the rest of the Ill-literaty hate me if I ask for an extension?

1:21 AM Hurm, supposedly BeOS5 is available for download here, but as of 1:20am the site doesn't respond to me. I'll try not to take it personally and will try back later today.

Jim and I just got back from GBV, and I'm too tired to say more than that I'm glad we went. It was fun. More later maybe.

The whole thing lasted about 6 months, but I got over it. Well pretty much over it... Alright, it still shoots pain through my brain when I look at her, but at least I don't hate her or anything irrational like that.

2:52 PM

Quickly now, let's go.

Sigh, I think I've found my dream job, but I don't have the guts to chuck it all away, move to California and apply to be Pyra's new gopher. I could answer phones and surf the web in the Blogger offices! Would my certifications matter? Probably not. But I'd get to act hip.

Updates to the DrunkenFish! Yes, I'm still slow and sloppy when it comes to web publishing, but it's up. Ben's attracted some guest writers this time around, so check it out.

Jim and I are going to see GBV tonight at the Bluebird. I haven't set foot in that place for years, but how can I pass up the chance to see these rock heroes up close and personal?

11:22 PM Get ready to Ramble!

Yes, I've made more minor changes to this site, rather than the full overhaul I've been promising. (Promising myself, that is, in case you don't remember me promising to change this page for the better). I've made it just less-anoying-enough so that I can stand to look at it, so long as I don't spend any time comparing it to anyone elses site design.

Liz rocks so hard, and she updates her site with nice long entries. Isn't it cool to hear what she's up to? Don't you wish all your friends had web pages?

Here's my car story:

My beat-up Honda CRX had finally been ruled un-driveable (by that deeply surpressed part of me that manages to keep me from killing myself off through a combo of stupidity and laziness), and was gathering dust (and reducing property values) in front of our house. I had taken the plates off, gotten a different car, and planned to get rid of it somehow, perhaps by donating it to some charity. Apparently the high profile police presence in my 'hood eventually took notice of the untagged heap, and took matters into their own hands. At least I think. I mean, the car's gone, but I haven't called the cops yet to verify that that's what has happened. But I plan to right away.

Eoungh about cars.

The Digeratti? Forget about it. The Ill-literatty rule! And we're not clique-ish either. Really, no, I mean it. Check out what we're reading, post a comment. Join us.

And speaking of reading, check out who's back on the web with a vengence!

[The All New Christy Paxson Show]

A new Christy Paxson Show, and new issues of ChristyWeek; talk about hitting the motherload! Scott and Justine (who's anniversary was today, btw; congrats you two!) came back from visiting Bart and Christy with tales of debauch and whatnot, as well as the need to share this link to Radiskull and Devil Doll (also available direct from the source via ChristyWeek). Good stuff if you've got Flash.

In search of segues? Look no further. It's also Bill's birthday, though like a slug I haven't even gotten an email off to him yet. Bill came back recently from Austin, but he wasn't there for SXSW. Yes, I know you're astonished, seeing as how he works the web for a living now, and SXSW was, like, THE web event of the year. Don't believe me? Look at any other weblog (powered by blogger or not) and see all the pre-event anticipation, the during-event postings, the post-event picture pages. Web-people went nuts for this thingy. Yes, I would have liked to have gone, but it wasn't until I was talking to Bill this weekend that I realized that the South by Southwest they were all drooling over was the same scene that Brown Betty had travelled to years ago. I guess I just assumed it was two events that happened to have the same name.

I never claimed to be quick-witted.

And now for some really big news.... Or at least I hope it's okay to hint around at this, that is, I mean, I think everyone knows by now, but in case they don't I'll be all cryptic and vague.... But Chris and Sarah, are, you know.... They're planning on, that is, Chris has picked up the.... Oh, I should wait til I know it's official.

Congratulations, you crazy kids!

Okay, and the last thingy here. I've added a "posted by" element to the page here, because before you know it, you might see more than one author here at TanqueLogue. You heard it here first.

Got plans, though, like pulling Shari in to post some stuff on this page (via Blogger's Team function). Also, Ben's been asking about Drunkenfish, i.e., what else we can do with it. He'll be adding a new installment soon, but maybe we need to look beyond the "he-writes-it, I-post-it" formula to a multiple posting-type environment. I'm working on how to do that, but still keep some sort of up-front index available. Hmmm.

Wonder if Ghost Dog will be playing in Theaters in B-town any time soon, or I'm I waiting for a Ryder release....

2:58 PM I'd never heard of Streambox before today, but it sounds pretty cool. Real networks got on my bad side a little while ago when they decided it was okay to secretly upload users' musical selections to their database for marketing purposes; very uncool. They've made a "patch" available, but the damage is done. I'll be checking this ripper out tonight to see if it's a viable alternative to RealPlayer for viewing .ram-type data.

By the way, I happened upon this because of Jon Katz's article in Slashdot, concerning internet copyright lawsuits; nothing new, but worth a quick read.

1:28 PM And we're back.

The weekend was too-cool, one of those great spring experiences that makes you think maybe you could live in Chicago after all. I got to Quimby's, at a new location since I was last there (years ago). Turns out they have a website, but I'm glad I got the chance to browse the weirdness in the flesh.

The real draw, of course, was the Emperor Penguin show, which rocked

-- so hard --.

Really, the Empty Bottle was fairly packed with enthusiastic music-lovers, and a grand time was had by all in attendance. (Side note: there was a cat there Saturday night, all black and incredibly calm considering the mahem - very odd) In due time, I'm sure Shari will have many pictures from the show (and the rest of the weekend) on her site. Thanks Sean/Tom/Sonya/Cynthia for the hospitality! You guys rock!

Now I gotta get myself a copy of Mysterious Pony....

5:38 PM 1. Always be polite on the job. Say please and thank you.

2. Never say more than is necessary

Oh yeah, just started Elmore Leonard's Swag and it's treating me right so far. Also stumbled upon this site about Elmore himself. It's pretty much what you'd expect, but still worth a quick gander.

Swag's the first of hopefully many books to be read by the newly formed Book Gang (okay, it's just a book club, but I'm looking to find a tougher name since we're starting out with crime fiction). Why not read Swag yourself and let us know what you thought of it?

Just who's in this so-called "club"? I hear you asking yourself. Well, I think the idea came from Clint's noggin, though it might have been Jim. In any event, those two, along with myself and Shari, make up the local contingent so far. BUT, if you're at all interested, feel free to drop a line. The ambitious part of me (which is usually out-voted by the slothful part) thinks there's a website in all this, but we'll see how that goes. Our target date for having it finished is next weekend, which should give everyone plenty of time to get through it; it's a real page turner.

But enough of my yackin' - I'm off to the Windy city to check out the scene and try to be hip. Wish me luck!

Or the many suggestions for using the word Monkey on their rant page. How coincidental that I spoke to our Monkey-boy just this morning? On the same page is a link to YourMoma, which, of course, reminded me of Spooge. Classic stuff.

11:40 AM Big weekend coming up. If you're in Chicago look out for EP! Of course, if I had my act together I would have gotten a hold of Rob before I left B-town. Maybe there's still hope. I doubt he reads this, though, so I'll have to track down his info on my own. Hurm....

I did a slight redesign of this page; I decided I couldn't stand the colors. They're still pretty ugly, but I can cope with them now until I make the time to really make some changes.

Chris tells me his site is going live soon; I can hardly wait! Don't worry, I put the link up soon.

2:46 PM Whew, I'm feeling a little worn, due mainly to lack of sleep the last few nights (slightly different schedule at work; crazy what a difference an hour makes). I had meant to have this site redesigned for March, and may still, but it's not going to happen today. So I'm posting this, even though there's no news or interesting sites to point to.

Shari and I are going to help Clint set up his PC tonight, so hopefully he'll be surfing away soon. After our recent success with Jack Flannel's machine, I'm expecting great things. Speaking of which, we got our latest issue of PotatoMan yesterday, and it was promptly read by all.
