Brokeback To The Future

Wednesday, February 1

So, this is my new page, shariarthur.com. I've had this domain for a while but I just haven't been motivated to do anything with it. Well, it’s not really a question of motivation, it’s just that I’m limited in my web page design capabilities and I just don’t have the energy to try and think of a clever design. I have a friend at work that designs on the side; I’m going to pick his brain for some ideas!

Two (sometimes 3) days a week I work from 11am to 8pm. It’s not that bad really, I LOVE sleeping in; AND after 5pm there is no one here except me and another support person from the other team so it’s pretty quiet. But after 5 the time goes really slow. We stay until 5 for our west coast customers (different time zones) but no one really ever calls after 7pm.

I really do like my new job a lot! It’s very challenging because I’m not just doing typical PC support; I’m supporting a specific software application that is very complex. In addition, this software is designed for the travel industry so I’m basically learning a whole new language. Do any of you have a clue how complicated and complex the travel industry really is? I sure didn’t! I’ve been here for 5 months now and I’m still struggling. People here have told me it’s taken up to a year for them to get comfortable with the travel business…..eeeeeee gads! I also like every person I work with (well, except Andy)(that’s an inside joke). I enjoy the social aspect of my job. We don’t have cubes, we just have a big room where we all sit. As a matter of fact, no one in this company has an office (except for the developers), even the President of the company sits out in the open, it’s really cool. And everyone is very laid back. Here is our company website:

Thank you all for your comments regarding the new title of my blog. And sorry Carrie for the lack of attention that forced you to get a personal trainer (I’m picturing in my mind you working out with the stereotypical hottie personal trainer).

I’ve been busier than ever (well if busy includes my sitting around watching TV time). I’ve been booked just about every weekend for the last 4 or 5 weekends so this Thanksgiving weekend I’m taking it easy. On Thursday I’m having my family down for dinner. But after that, it’s sofa city. I do plan on seeing the rock fest at the Bluebird on Friday night. I’ve missed the last 7 GC shows, I’m excited to see them and all of the usual “groupies” that accompany them. I’m also very excited about the debut of the Basic Ultra Lights. But what about Angus Heartburn? Why did they get left off the bill….too sad.

So I know you have all been waiting on the edge of your seats to hear about my weekend in Baltimore. First off, the flights were perfect, without any problems what so ever. I was so nervous getting on the plane in Indy on Friday night that I had to buy $9 margaritas to muster up some courage. But the weekend ended up being even better than expected. I LOVE working for this company because they are like us….an event is not an event unless you got the booze! I mean everywhere I turned they were throwing free booze at us, and I’m not talking the cheap shit either. Friday night at the “meet and greet”, open bar, Saturday night dinner – 3 open bars to accommodate no waiting for a drink, Saturday after dinner party (complete with a live, 80’s cover band) – more free booze (did I mention that it was unlimited…as in NO LIMIT). And, not just the booze was free…I didn’t spend one dime in Baltimore and I lived like a king. They paid for everything, AND I got a bunch of free stuff including a fleece and a whole box of every product that Mars Candy makes (including every variety of Combos). My hotel was right on the harbor with a great view of it. Yeah, I kind of like working for Cornerstone!

Happy Thanksgiving, I am thankful for all of my great friends and my wonderful family!

Thank you to Jimmy R. for the clever new title of my weblog. After leaving my windows open on Saturday night and sitting in wet seats all the way to Indy, I have come to the conclusion that yes, I am indeed an idiot!

7 Days until I have to get on a plane!

In other more pathetic news...couldn't take the driving test yesterday because my speed odometer doesn't work on my car. It hasn't work for YEARS! I totally forgot about it until the driving instructor was "inspecting" my car. So now, I'm driving illegally. Well, technically I've been driving illegally for the past 3 year but now I'm aware of it and that's kind of bad.

So here's my question: What kind of operation is the BMV anyway? They clearly know that I do not currently have a valid drivers license yet they allow me to leave their facility, get into my car and drive home. Too funny!

I'm not too worried about it. I'm kind of a grandma driver and my car (being the piece of shit it is) is in good working condition (no head lights or tail lights out). The only thing I was overly concerned about was having identification to get on the plane next week. However I got a state issued ID card while I was at the BMV so I will just have to make arrangements to borrow someone's vehicle to take the test.

Last night I wrote out a long post regarding my new job and my new frustrations that I will post, probably tonight but yesterday was a much better day and I feel like things will eventually get better but for now, they still kinda suck.

Here is another stupid saga in my idiotic life! I’m trying to get it together but I swear I am my own worst enemy!

So today I get up early and go to the BMV before work to get a duplicate copy of my driver’s license. I lost my license a while ago (like 3 years) one day when I spent a day on Lake Monroe. Well, what I didn’t realize is that my license expired in 2002, yep that’s right, 2002. So now since it’s been expired for more than two years I had to take a written test and tomorrow at 9am I have to take a driving test. Sometimes I’m an idiot!

The whole reason for getting my license renewed is because I have to go on this stupid trip for Cornerstone on the 11th which now I don’t really even want to go on. I’ve decided this job is bullshit and I hate it. I’ll get into why later on. I don’t technically have to go to this retreat but they have already purchased my ticket so I’m stuck. But the upside is that again I will get to travel to somewhere I’ve never been before and I will get basically everything free for the weekend…and I plan on getting REALLY REALLY drunk!

9 days until I have to get on a plane!
