Boy, I say I'm not gonna blog, and then...

I appreciate your clarification, Sonya. However, I think it's unreasonable for you to expect us to respond in the manner of Ned, or anybody else. I respond the way I am going to respond. And, for the most part, I am doing it for fun. Debating things on the blog, even (and perhaps especially) the meaningless topics is part of the blog's raison d'etre. If you want a blog full of Neds or Huffmans or even me's, it sounds more like email.

And I know I have sounded cantankerous in the past coupla postings. Maybe it is this stupid workshop I just finished. Summer is officially here. Let's go make Chris a man!

First off, in case anyone is wondering, the confusion between Phil and me regarding D & D is cleared up, and with any luck, swords will be clanging, spell components will be flying through the air, and evil will shudder in fear in the near future. Forgotten Realms will be our little bitch....

And yes, Sonya, you DO have to explain why the above (or any other aspects of D & D) disturbs you. As you said, it's not that you just don't like it. It's that it you find it "geeky in that you-scare-me-because-you-are-so-fucking-weird-it's-disturbing way. When Sean told me he used to play, it was almost a deal-breaker. I still don't like to think about it."

I will go on the offensive by saying that the game is a great way for a few friends to get together for an evening of creativity, problem-solving, imagination, and violence. Many people in the world love fantasy as a genre. If you don't think so, wait til you see the lines outside of theaters in December when Lord of the Rings comes out. Thanks to D&D, we all have a way to pretend we are actually in that world. Aren't we lucky? No, apparently we are "so-fucking-weird-it's-disturbing."

I think you need to explain yourself.

Quickly...

I want to give you all the heads up that summer means my blogging quotient will be reduced quite a bit. Too much fun stuff to do outside. So there.

Phil, I wish you would try other ways to get people involved with things like D & D. You say things like, "I know that Jim R. has one he doesn't ever plan to use again, so good luck to the first one of you to get a hold of him," and, "that may prove more difficult than getting Jim Robinson to commit to an afternoon of D&D (i.e. next to impossible)." Not more than two weeks ago, the following appeared in my blog:

"I miss D & D, as well. I was talking with Jennifer about the good old days with Balron and Holmes, about the discordant evenings by the fires in Chateau Drinkmore, where the swords clanged, the ale flowed, and the elf-maidens stirred up trouble….Who was the father of that Lady's child? I would like to hope we are in a lull, not a permanent end to adventuring. To banish D & D from my seems a terrible prospect. You will always be my Dungeon Master."

Does this sound like someone who doesn't want to play? I just had a conversation with Jennifer while walking in the woods the other evening about my need to get in touch with you about playing (and some music, too--I just got a new acoustic bass guitar!). ANd no, I haven't gotten in touch yet, but the above makes my desires clear. If you want me to be involved, I am there. I especially like the idea of sober play. But I don't like being admonished. Really.

Either way. Here is how anyone can get ahold of me:
